The Second Reunion

The second Bu/Bo/Butxaca reunion took place on the June 28th-29th, 2003, at Gerri de la Sal (Pallars Sobirà, Catalonia, Spain) in the Gerri Monastery.

There was time for a representative of each family to introduce him/herself and the rest of the members of their immediate family, names, origins and source of the tree.

J. Bochaca Romaguera spoke on two subjects: “The family and its Evolution” and “Documentary Sources”.

The work carried out during these four years was analyzed. An explanation was made of the research carried out in Valencia, which is aimed towards linking the branch in Cuba and the U.S.A. There was the obvious presence of new families incorporated into the meetings. There was a presentation of the advances achieved in uniting many disperse trees, emphasizing especially the discovery of a contract of sale which allowed us to move back three generations, situating ourselves in a time prior to at least 1564. Boxaca seems to be the surname which is the origin of the other variants.

Pere Cerqueda Buchaca explained the part of the Buchacas from Valldarques, Sallent, Coll de Nargó and other nearby places.

An introductory presentation was made of what the Book would be.

Positive Improvements

  • A larger attendance than in 1999: 174 were present.
  • Practically the same families returned, with the addition of a few more.
  • Regarding the research, it seems that after all the efforts made, not much more can be added to the tree of the Bochacas of Tornafort-Gerri-Gramuntill, or to that of Valldarques-Sallent. In the near future, we would like to be able to link Manuel Magín Buchaca Las Casas and his descendants to the great tree of the family.

Arrels - Book of a Family

Arrels

‘The Book of a Family’ is the detailed, informative account of our family's past, present and future.

Family Origin

Origin

Our earliest finding of Boxaca is in Freixe, three brothers, and we assume their father was born about 1545.
