The Sixth Reunion

The Sixth International Meeting of Bu/Bo/Butxaca took place June 27 in Barcelona.

During the phase of pre-registrations and registrations, there was some uncertainty whether the meeting would be held, due to the limited number of potential attendees.

Finally, 61 people registered, and 59 actually attended, the majority from Barcelona and nearby towns. From outside of Catalonia, noteworthy was the attendance of Leticia and her family who have origins in Paraguay and France, and are currently residing in Aix-en-Provence.

This meeting was held within the magnificent facilities of the School of La Salle Bonanova Christian Brothers, provided to us without fee.

We started the meeting with a Mass celebrated in honor of deceased family members. Later, we had a brief tribute to each of those who have passed away since the last meeting in 2012.

The meeting had a very Lasallian character as some of the attendees had as children gone to school here at La Salle Bonanova or at La Salle Comtal or another La Salle school and thus felt "back home again". And the "feeling" of the school was evident as the La Salle Brothers welcomed us as family and were exceedingly helpful to us during our stay.

A 32-minute video was presented on the most important figures of the great family Boxaca who are no longer with us. In total 15 people, starting with an outlaw of the early sixteenth century, a native of Alós (Pallars Sobirà, Catalonia), and going through to our dear Nico from the United States. Among other significant members from Catalonia, France, Cuba, and the USA, particular reference was made to Antoni Bochaca Moles, who was a benefactor and a president of the Federation of Associations of Alumni of the La Salle Schools of Catalonia, to whom the Brothers of the Bonanova wanted to dedicate a few words of remembrance and gratitude.

We read messages from Cuba, the USA, Argentina, and France, all expressing regret at not having been with us for various reasons, but by their messages were able to participate with us.

The family trees of the large Bochaca-Buchaca-Butxaca families, including all from Pallars, Alt Urgell, Penelles, Argentina, Cuba, and the USA, were presented by computer in PDF format. We are using multiple trees while working to find the missing links that will allow us to create one impressive tree.

The four members were presented (Rick, Josep, Jordi, and Eli) who are responsible for the genealogy program, which will ensure the continuity of current data and future of construction for the family trees.

Unveiled was the project to create a Boxaca presence on Facebook, using a "group" and a "page".

There was discussion of whether to continue holding reunions, and its continuation was passed unanimously. A written survey was presented to which 33 people responded. This will be used by the next organizing team to create the next reunion, including encouraging participation of younger Boxaca.

We parted with the singing of our national anthem, and giving as a gift to each attendee a DVD of "prominent people". This DVD was only in Catalan; we hope to publish it also in Castilian, French and English.

The next Meeting is to be in 2018, in Gramuntill (Pobla de Segur/Tremp), Pallars Jussà, Catalonia.
